I live about 140 miles away from the largest active volcano in the world........Yellowstone National Park. No the volcano isn’t in Yellowstone, it is Yellowstone and it’s a supervolcano. According to Bill Bryson in his book A Short History of Nearly Everything, under the western United States there is huge cauldron of magma. “Imagine a pile of TNT the size of Rhode Island and reaching to the clouds, that is what lies beneath Yellowstone.” “Only two things are certain: that the crust of Yellowstone is thin and the world beneath it is hot.” A colossal volcanic hot spot, Yellowstone erupts cataclysmically every 600,000 years or so, the last eruption was............. 630,000 years ago.
Okay, so who wants to visit???? :)
