the neighbors

The day before Thanksgiving some friends dropped by. I didn't have the heart to tell them what was on my counter thawing.

because glass globs are just so swank

I decided to take a break today from trying to decipher the mysteries of histograms, white balance, and the unattainable sharp, crystal clear, creatively exposed, photograph and spend the day doing what I do best; sticking crap together. Because we have wood floors, wood cabinetry, and mostly log walls there are only a few little pockets throughout the house that lend themselves to color. In the kitchen we have a 2'x 5' patch of drywall that I've been putting off mosaicing for far too long.

So today I smashed some old chipped plates, mixed up some thin-set (well actually Larry mixed the thin-set) and got to work.

It still needs washing and grouting but I'm liking it pretty well.
Tomorrow I'm back to wrestling with my camera unless I can find something else to glue junk to.

Postcards From The Edge 2009

This year I'm donating a collaged mirror piece to the Visual AIDS annual Postcards from the Edge exhibition. It measures 4"x6" (postcard size) and is made of 100% recycled/reused materials.

bad photography, cats, and my keyboard

As you've probably already figured out I've been trying to teach myself photography. Unfortunately, I am 4 months into this and still in the "really bad" stage so I don't want to spend much more on equipment. This morning I made myself a white box with some diy instructions I found online. I then spent the afternoon frustratedly shooting over a hundred unsuccessful frames of one silly antique doll. I accomplished very little but I have 6 cats who've decided that while I may suck royally when it comes photography, my white box is one of the best toys ever (second only to my keyboard).
