admitting defeat...

it's just too cool here to ripen outside so I've brought them all in.

yep, another Hanging Horn post...

I took this picture of Hanging Horn tonight. Anyone who's read my blog from the beginning knows that he thinks he's our fourth dog. I just wanted to put up a new photo so that everyone can see him grown and healthy. He's a little bedraggled since shedding his velvet; hence the stuff hanging from his little antler. I tried to pull it off before the photo but that seemed to annoy him so I just left it. After all, he is a guy and doesn't really worry about such silliness as grooming for blog posts.

it's 5 am and I couldn't sleep

when zoe was little she cut out a heart
on which she wrote
a much needed reminder to me
to bee love.

i try
although often i'm not able to heed her advice.
sometimes, when the door of my very small circle
opens a crack, I fail
and humanity escapes me.

then what I need (all that I am good for)
is to be locked alone
inside a thickly padded room
waiting to disintegrate
completely.

be merciful, gods and neighbors
and do not drop by.
i'm really sorry that I am not that person
who you came to see.

just shut the door on your way out
and throw away the key.
there is no...there is only
vacancy here.

Outside right now...

...there are a pair of great horned owls
Just minutes ago, Zoe and I stood out in the still blackness to listen. There is something magical about the cold night air filled with nothing but stars and owls.

stanley's been working on his bur collection again

Larry and I spent the morning stacking firewood while Stanley was busy collecting burs. He collects pine needles too, but he's saving those for Christmas.

man, i LOVE this guy's work...

he's the master of patina and decay. I mean, look at that surface! Okay, so I'm not very objective but still you gotta admit he's pretty darn good for an unknown (mba/retired colonel) turned artist and hermit, hiding in the woods of Wyoming. We've been trying to photograph and organize all of Larry's work from the past 20+ years so I thought I'd post one. We really need to get them out of boxes and garbage bags and build some shelves or something but life here is getting crazy/hectic (for 2 people who do nothing) so that may have to wait.
